The final DII baseball Power 10 rankings before the tournament begins

Tampa wins the 2024 DII baseball championship

The 2025 DII baseball championship begins this week. Before the tournament begins, let's peek in at the last Power 10 rankings until the conclusion of the tournament.

Let's face it. The only rankings that matter right now are the regional rankings. That got 56 teams into the bracket, and now it doesn't matter if you are a No. 1 seed or No. 56. That said, some of these upper echelon teams can be seen as true contenders, so it is important to take one last look.

These weekly Power 10 rankings at sifoeeprocess.com, as well as my  (with super regional and Cary predictions), are not a simple equation based solely on metrics, nor is it voted upon by a body of people around the game. It is a combination of both, weighing what is happening on the field with what is happening on paper. It is important to remember, the conference championships weigh differently for different teams. A team like West Alabama won its conference tournament and disrupted the entire regional rankings and could see the Tigers jump into the top 25, but a team like Central Missouri, that was upset in the MIAA tournament, hardly slips far down the rankings. Basically, one or two games does not define a season, especially the longest of any DII sport.

The DII baseball Power 10 rankings (Week ending May 10)

No. 1 Tampa | Previous: 1. Tampa has the second-best winning percentage in DII baseball against the 13th-toughest SoS, is No. 1 in the South Region 鈥 arguably one of the best in all DII 鈥 and are defending champs with one of the best pitching staffs in all DII and . Any questions?

No. 2 Angelo State | Previous: 2. The Rams won the Lone Star Conference and locked up the No. 1 seed in the South Central Region. This is the best run-producing lineup in DII baseball and has reached Cary in each of the last four seasons. Sure looks like this year may be No. 5.

No. 3 Catawba| Previous: 5. You should know by now that I think the Southeast Region is the toughest in DII baseball. Catawba defeated a Power 10 team (Lenoir-Rhyne) in a three-game series to win the SAC, which should  lock up the No. 1 seed in the Southeast. This team went to Cary last year, and has the pitching and fire power to do it again. Repeating in the Southeast is no easy task, though.

No. 4 Millersville| Previous: 3. The Marauders were the best team in a PSAC that had four teams popping up in the national rankings conversation this season. They have a balanced pitching staff and a gritty lineup that works opposing pitchers. This may be their best chance to reach Cary in a few seasons.

No. 5 Central Missouri | Previous: No. 4. Sure, the Mules got surprisingly bounced early from the MIAA tournament, but they should still have the No. 1 seed in the Central Region. That tells you how strong a resume they built all season long. This team has a potent lineup and a deep bullpen, so maybe that early MIAA exit put a chip on their shoulders.

No. 6 Minnesota State| Previous: No. 7. The Mavericks have one of the best players (Louis Magers) in DII and let's face it 鈥 they came out of the gate with the pedal to the metal and NEVER took it off. That's how they posted the best record in DII this year, and while their SoS may be weaker than the other Power 10 teams, they handled the schedule they had with relative ease.

No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne| Previous: 6. The Bears have arguably the best lineup in DII baseball and made it all the way to the SAC finals. This is one of the best teams in the Southeast Region, have a player-of-the-year candidate in Mackenzie Wainwright and were steady from start to finish. The tough part of the Southeast Region is that it all means nothing with how stacked that regional tournament will be.

No. 8 Young Harris | Previous: 8.  The Mountain Lions fell to Belmont Abbey in a pair of one-run ball games in the Conference Carolinas championship. They were right there, and have been all season long. They have three big power bats and decent balance on the pitching staff that they could make a run to Cary and no one would be surprised.

No. 9 UT Tyler| Previous: No. 9. The Patriots were a force from opening day, and despite falling in the LSC semifinals (in extra innings to Angelo State), they should still have the No. 2 seed, although it will be close with a surging Colorado Mesa in their rearview mirror. This team was in every ball game it played, even its losses, with a deep lineup and balanced pitching staff.

No. 10 Westmont| Previous: No. First five out. It was an impressive season for the Warriors in what turned out to be a much trickier PacWest than expected. They won the conference and now get to make their DII baseball championship debut. This team has the pitching and hitting to make it to Cary 鈥 an impressive feat in their first year of DII tournament eligibility.

First five out (in order)

  • North Greenville. The Trailblazers fell early in the CC tournament but this is one of the best run-producing offenses in DII.
  • Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks have won 40 or more games in 11 of the last 12 seasons, just captured their 13th-straight RMAC regular-season title and third-straight tournament title.
  • Florida Southern. The Mocs recorded one of the biggest turnarounds in DII this year, going from 18 wins to tournament bound. They can hang with anyone in the tricky South Region.
  • Davenport. The Panthers made it to the GLIAC championship by beating top-20 Grand Valley State in the semifinals, a team they also took a series from 3-1 earlier in the season.
  • Belmont Abbey. Belmont Abbey has 40 wins and beat Young Harris twice to win the Conference Carolinas. This has been one of the best teams in DII all season, but were simply buried in the deep Southeast Region.

Just missed: Cal State Monterey Bay, Grand Valley State, North Georgia, Pittsburg State, Northwest Nazarene
