There are 32 teams in the NFL, each with a 53-man active roster for a total of 1,696 total players. FBS players make up 92.7% of the league total, or 1,573 athletes.
Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. ET was the deadline for teams to cut their rosters from 90 players to 53 going into the regular season.
SEC and Big Ten powerhouses lead the list, with Alabama contributing the most to the pros with 62 players. Right behind Alabama are a pair of marquee pipelines tied with 57 players each: Georgia and Ohio State. Michigan is fourth with 44. LSU (SEC) and Notre Dame (Independent) are tied for the fifth spot with 39 players each. Oklahoma boasts 32 players, most from when the program was in the Big 12.
In total, 214 universities from around the country have one or more representatives in the NFL. Three of those universities are DIII with Greenville, Saint John's (MN) and Wisconsin-Whitewater each having one player. Wisconsin-Whitewater's Quinn Meinerz is entering his fifth season, earning All-Pro honors at guard for the Denver Broncos last year.
