🤘 TEXAS SURVIVES THE THRILLER IN 5
No. 2 Texas edges No. 6 Stanford 3-2 in a five-set thriller in Austin, Texas on Sunday, Sept. 7 in a battle of the blue bloods in college volleyball. In the ninth meeting between the two programs while ranked in the top-10, a buzzing sold-out crowd in the Moody Center ignited the spark the Longhorns needed to reclaim control late in the match and deny the Cardinal of a hard-fought victory.
Texas took control early on, winning the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23 in a commanding fashion. But the tide turned and the Cardinal fought back. Texas fell in the third and fourth sets to a rolling Stanford team 25-21 and 25-13.
The momentum for the Stanford team seemed to continue into the fifth set, propelling them to a 10-5 lead. But a timely Texas timeout and heroic defense from Ramsey Gary kept the Longhorns in the fight, pushing them to a 7-2 scoring run and a 12-11 lead. The battle continued with Stanford tallying three match points despite the late Longhorn rally. Five ties later with their backs against the wall, Texas secured the 18-16 victory.
Veteran transfer Torrey Stafford showed her guts, recording 18 kills on .255 hitting with 10 digs and two blocks while freshmen Cari Spears showed experience of her own with 14 kills on the day. Paired with the relentless defense of Emma Halter and Ramsey Gary, with 10 and eight crucial digs respectfully, the Longhorn lineup has yet to be denied.
Texas remains undefeated in early 2025 season play and is now 73-15 at home vs an AP top-25 opponent.

The Cardinal survive and advance in their matchup against Texas, winning set three 25-21. Stanford took control early on in the set and controlled the entire way despite late rally's from the Longhorn offense to chip away at the once six point lead. Elia Rubin's leadership is shown off and on the court for the Stanford team, tallying 12 kills on .300 hitting with six digs and a block.
